Residence I
Bruges, Belgium
2022 - 2023

The railway street forms a ribbon from Sint-Michiels to the center of Bruges. The new construction plan fills a gap in the street wall with two building blocks, each consisting of a disabled ground-floor apartment and a duplex apartment. The new white, modernist residential units with vertical wooden wall sections contrast and at the same time interfere with the nearby homes. In the open passage between the residential units, the black wooden vertical plinth is the connecting element between the street side and the public outdoor area. The distinction between the different units is blurred by the positioning of the windows and the removed volumes.
The main living areas are spacious and have logical routing. The dining and living room are oriented outwards, making optimal use of natural light and residents can always enjoy the pleasant view of the public courtyard. In the central corridor, a long sightline runs from the entrance to the rear of the garden. The stairwell is located in the heart of the building. A subdued color palette inspired by the coast has been chosen for the interior, creating a soothing, relaxing atmosphere.
