Analysis Therme Vals

Instagram post tdr_arch 2.5D synthesis Tadao Ando 2_edited.jpg

Located in the Swiss village of Vals, Therme Vals is an enchanting thermal bath and spa designed by renowned architect Peter Zumthor. It is highly regarded for its sublime integration with the surrounding nature. The design uses local materials such as quartzite and Vals stones, creating an aura of tranquility. The minimalist approach and the tangible sense of materiality characterize the unique character of Therme Vals. This three-dimensional synthesis shows similarities with the previous analysis, with an emphasis on geometric shapes, use of materials, serene atmosphere, play of light and views. The cube consists of several elements that reflect the design of Therme Vals: first, a vertical composition of blocks that form positive and negative spaces, a representation of the Vals stones. Secondly, plexiglass strips symbolizing the baths. And finally, outer blocks representing the concrete roof, with spaces in between for light and views.
